The Court held that a pen packet containing certified copies of a prior conviction, certified by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice record clerk, satisfies the authentication requirements of Texas Rules of Criminal Evidence 901 and 902(4) and is therefore admissible; consequently the trial court's judgment was affirmed and the Court of Appeals' reversal was reversed. Justice Clinton dissented, arguing the certification was insufficient and the appellate judgment should be affirmed.
