Supreme Court of New Jersey

E.T. v. the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County

August 19, 2026

Summary

The Court held that New Jersey lacks specific personal jurisdiction over the national organization because the plaintiffs' abuse claims do not arise out of or relate to any affirmative act that the organization took in or directed toward New Jersey. Although the organization maintained substantial contacts with New Jersey through branding, programming, training, support, and membership dues, those contacts were insufficiently connected to the alleged abuse. The Court therefore affirmed the Appellate Division's judgment.
