Supreme Court of Connecticut
Raymond M. Lodge v. Arett Sales Corporation Patricia Hughes
August 25, 1998246 Conn. 563
Summary
The court held that alarm-system defendants who negligently caused a false fire alarm owed no duty to firefighters injured when the responding fire engine crashed after its negligently maintained brakes failed. The brake failure and resulting collision were too remote and unforeseeable, and public-policy considerations did not support extending liability to that consequence. The judgment was reversed and the case remanded for entry of judgment for Wells Fargo and Advanced.
