U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit
Skeffington v. Curtis
August 21, 2026
Summary
The court affirmed summary judgment for the officers on all claims arising from three warrantless entries into a sober home. It held that the October claims failed because the plaintiffs offered only conclusory evidence of an excessive search or unreasonable questioning, the December claims failed for lack of evidence tying the challenged conduct to the named detectives or because arguments were waived, and the January claims failed for lack of evidence or qualified immunity. The court also held that the state conspiracy claim failed because the plaintiffs could not establish an underlying tort.
