Summary

The court affirmed the Board’s determinations in both inter partes review proceedings. It upheld the construction of claim 1’s “the rendered first webpage” limitation as referring to the previously rendered version from which the corresponding image was captured, found substantial evidence supporting the Board’s rejection of Apple’s obviousness challenges to claims 1–13, and upheld the Board’s broader construction and unpatentability findings for claims 14–18. The court also concluded that the Board properly excluded Apple’s reply-stage browser-caching evidence and did not apply an impermissibly rigid express-disclosure requirement.
